Tuesday 26 August

The day was mainly a travel day which was just as well as everyone seemed to be feeling very off. Given taht we had all gone separate ways while in Halifax it seemed a bit odd. Apart from feeling off some of our fellow travelers were also throwing up. Great! We all looked seedy as if we had been out partying for the previous 48 hours.

We left Halifax just after 8 and headed for the World Heritage Site of Lunenburg. Lunenburg was one of the earliest settlements in this region. It is a maritime town and much has been done to preserve the early colonial architecture.

Looking at the town from across the harbour:

A couple of tall ships call Lunenburg home:

While in Lunenburg we came across a building which was being re-clad. Cladding is usually wood and can be planks or, quite commonly, wooden shingles as in this case.

Back on the road most of the group slept while Mike, our tour leader, headed for Digby. We had a couple of stops along the way: lunch and then at a country store with the most remarkable collection of hunting gear ... this was for the toilet not the potential shopping that it presented.

We were taking the 4 o'clock ferry across the Bay of Fundy to St John. Most of us continued to sleep as we crossed Nova Scotia to the departure port.

The crossing from Digby to St John takes 3 hours. It was pretty uneventful until the ferry tried to dock. With the tide against it and a stron wind blowing they could not manage it. A tug boat was called in and pushed us in.

Once off the ferry and back on our bus we headed for our hotel. Normally the group would have done a look around St John but everyone opted for an early night.
