Trevor's day in Baxter State Park

After breakfast we drove to the Baxter State Park. Although it is classified as a State Park it is not funded as are the other State Parks. They have to generate money to look after the park.

We first dropped Lorraine off so that she could climb Mount Owl, the rest of us drove on to Daicey Pond and parked. The  plan was to do about a four mile walk around the lake/pond and then to trek out to Niagara Falls(not the real one). As things turned out when we about half way around we meet some other walkers who said that Moose were sighted around Grassy Pond, so of course we changed plans. No Moose were seen so we tracked back and continued around the remainder of Daicey Pond.

Below is some of the scenery from the walk.

Some scenes from Grassy Pond.

An example as to how well the trails are marked

Some more of Daicey Pond.

An example of the bridges in the area.

There were a variety of fungi along the tracks. Below is a selection of the ones I found.

I and 2 others had decided that we would see the area from the air so we headed off to the lake/pond from which the plan departed.

The parking area and the plane in which we flew.

The flight and some photos from the plane. As you can tell from the photos that it took some time to not have the plane as most of the photo. I'd probably do better if I had to do it again. The area is covered with numerous lakes. The photos do not truly reflect the number of lakes/ponds. About half of the flattish area is made up of lakes.

Back to the hotel for us three, then the guide drove back out to pick up those who had stayed in the park whilst we were flying.
