August 21: Prince Edward Island

On Price Edward Island we stayed at the Bay Vista Motel and Cottages which is a little west of the town of Cavendish of Anne Of Green Gables fame.

Today was a day of options and we opted not to visit Green Gables in the morning but instead had a quiet morning doing the laundry and catching up on the blog.

After lunch there were more options however Trevor and I elected to do a walk through Prince Edward Island National Park before exiting out onto the highway and walking along it back to our accommodation.

Quite a few trees were partially encased in spider webs

There were warnings about the cliffs eroding. Well, the cliffs were about 2 ft high. Note the red sand.

The dubes on the other side of the bay appear almost white albeit with a slightly pinkish hue. The water in the bay varied from blue to pink/red

There were some marshy areas in from the bay

On the way back we stopped in at one of the tourist traps to have a look at what they had to offer. There was a food outlet selling "beaver tails" and I got one to see what they were. They are a fried pastry which is shaped like a beaver tail and toped with your choice of topping. We had apple and cinnamon. Apart from the horrendously high calorie count it was OK.

For dinner tonight we went to the Fishermans Wharf at North Rustico. I had to put the name of the place in as it is pretty special. They specialise in lobster dinners. I think the whole coastal region of norther USA and this part of Canada specialise in lobster stuff.

Anyway, include with the lobster, or whatever else you chose, was an all you can eat buffet with a whole range of foods plus soft drinks, beer, coffee and desert. Here is Trevor's dinner:
Now that is quite a few mussels ... I did see some people with more ... no salad just mussels

Clam Chowder

Huge bread rolls

1 lb lobster ... it was possible to get bigger ones

Trevor with the bid intended to stop getting juices all over the clothes

and finally, blueberry pie and icecream
After dinner we headed off the the Women's Institute Hall in Stanley Bridge for a gaelic concert. The four guys in the group were very entertaining and were supported by two girls who did Irish dances.

  2. Yes, the bib did work although lobster juices still got on the hands and ran down the arms.
